“RETICULAR” PARK

The Bari Costa Sud Coastal Park focuses its attention on the redevelopment of a large portion southeast of the city of Bari with the main purpose of connecting the monumental waterfront with the Madonnella and Japigia neighborhoods by increasing collective use and the area’s ecology.
Within this strategy is project lot no. 5 “Reticular Park” which constitutes a physical hinge between the Japigia and Sant’Anna neighborhoods and the coastal strip.

The entire park has a linear layout that serves as a connection between the coast and the more urbanized part of the city, and near the latter the linearity gives way to larger spaces that embrace the Japigia neighborhood, taking on a more urban character due to the presence of services of a less “rural” nature.

There is also a third area, located further south, affected by an underpass connecting the Sant’Anna neighborhood with the coast. This too is subject to redevelopment.

All areas are connected by cycle and pedestrian paths that allow full enjoyment of the park by all types of users. These paths are also driveable, as they provide access to private property areas.”

The physical separation of the two areas has allowed for the drafting of a unified project, thanks to the common geomorphological and vegetational characteristics of the places and thanks to the connections, especially soft mobility connections with Bellavista Park.

In this regard, the vegetational element constitutes a fundamental part of the entire project with the aim of bringing back to the area the fundamental elements of rurality and with the objective of increasing the ecological and natural value of the rural park. The vegetational element, combined with the presence of wooden structures, provides essential shading to counteract high temperature phenomena during summer seasons.

The planting of tree, shrub and herbaceous species is planned in every location of the Reticular Park using different approaches dictated by the state of the places and by the architectural and use solutions proposed. The pattern of tree canopies and colors will always vary depending on where one is located both from the perspective of the specific place in the park and the season of the year.
